A poem (April 24, 2008) Below is a poem that sums up the attitude we should all try to adopt as a club. It makes you think what the game is really about:
Let Them Play
They stand on the field with their hearts beating fast
The whistle has blown, the die has been cast. Mum and Dad cannot help, they stand alone, A goal at this moment would send the team home. The ball near their feet they kick and it misses, There’s a moan from the crowd, Some boos and some hisses. A thoughtless voice cries ‘take that boy off’ Tears fill their eyes and there’s no longer joy. So if you’re tempted to shout or to groan Remember it’s a child that stands there all alone. So open your heart and give them a break, It’s moments like this a player you make. Keep this in mind and please don’t forget, They’re still only children NOT ADULTS YET! Remember Children should not be forced to participate in football; they are not playing to satisfy your ambitions. Children and young people are involved in football for THEIR enjoyment - not yours Always encourage your child to play by the rules Never ridicule or shout at your child for making a mistake or losing a game Children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team as well as by members of the opposing team Don’t publicly question any officials decisions and never doubt his or her honesty Click here to return to the News page
